I love tag posts, so I thought it would be fun to do one!

What was the last country you visited?

Ireland… catching a connecting flight

How many countries have you visited?

I need to count them up. I have serious wanderlust but haven’t actually been to THAT many countries. 11 maybe? 4 continents. They’re all on my list.

Batu Caves, Malaysia, 2008

What is your favourite place on the planet, that you have been to?

I really enjoyed just about everywhere I went in Thailand and Malaysia, I really loved living in Sydney, and visiting North Stradbroke Island, and the Great Barrier Reef… How are you supposed to pick just ONE?!

OK but for real, I’d have to say Artemida, Greece because that’s where we held our wedding. Also, Nafplion is gorgeous.

Hiking in Singapore

Favourite place in your home country?

I love Grey & Bruce Counties in Ontario – Tobemory, Flower pot island… beautiful. I also love Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City, Calgary… and the list goes on!

St. Anne’s Basilica, Quebec, 2016

If you could board a plane now, where would you go?

Right now? I’m in the middle of watching the Raptors game (they are winning, by the way!)… but I think I would want some warmth in my life in November. Perhaps Rio? Lima? Sydney? Johannesburg? Let’s just say somewhere new and warm, and call it a day.

Sydney Opera House, 2008

What’s your cup of tea – Tropical island getaway, snowy ski break, or city exploring trips?

City exploring. Hands down. I wouldn’t mind if those other elements were incorporated, but the city is what draws me in. Except Tahiti/Bora Bora. I don’t think I need to explain why they draw me in.

What are your top 3 hand luggage must-haves?

Above the essentials like cash, phone, passport and hand cream, I would recommend cozy socks, an empty water bottle, a spare set of clothes if you’re checking a bag, and… headphones. I guess that’s 4, but I stand by this list.

Any travel tips to share?

Pack smart. Don’t over plan. Leave some room to bring back something special.

Most embarrassing moment abroad!

am so easily embarrassed, and I lived abroad for a semester, had a whole wedding abroad… there were some embarrassing moments, but I don’t care to relive them.

Biggest disappointment?

I’d say the weather in Scotland. I was told they were having a heatwave! I nearly froze my fingers off at the Edinburgh Tattoo

Glenfinnan, Scotland, 2017

Nicest surprise?

Thailand surprised me. Probably because I had no idea what to expect. I love Thailand.

Phi Phi Island, Thailand, 2008

Three places at the top of the travel bucket list.

I might have to pick large geographical areas in order to satisfy this one… how about Eastern Europe, Southern..actually many places in Africa, and New Zealand.

Favourite food discovery.

Real Thai. The Canadian versions are terrible. Also, almost anything the French make. AND that Scottish food is not bad at all. So many people had weird preconceived notions about it before I left. But the only disappointing meal we had on that entire vacation was actually over the border in England! LOL

Why do you travel?

Because I get cabin fever and want to see everything. I have a passion for life on the road…or in a plane. I’m less fussed about buses and trains

Delphi, Greece, 2012

What 3 things would you take on holiday/going travelling if you could?

If I could, I’d take my son! But what else would I want to bring that I potentially couldn’t? A strong wi-fi signal?

Have you picked up any phrases from travelling?

There was that time that a lovely man in Germany taught me a phrase, but hell if I could spell it. I’ve hung onto a few Aussie/UK words that we don’t use in Canada – reckon, no worries, should do… nothing earth shattering.

What two places would you not go back to and why?

Why wouldn’t you go back if you had the opportunity? I don’t have a burning desire to return to Scotland, but I just left – I’m still drying off!

Your dream travel companion.

A camera. My husband is pretty great, and my friend Veronica is a lot of fun too!

Most surreal travel moment.

Oh maybe the time I was held up in Australian immigration at midnight, or the time all of my stuff was stolen. Maybe the time I slept in a train station in Melbourne, and then after being kicked out by security, spent the rest of the night outside (in the winter). Maybe our engagement in Montreal, or our wedding in Greece. Maybe that time I saw a ping pong show, where a woman removed razors from unmentionable areas. Maybe the time I walked from the Honolulu airport to find a pub at midnight – I didn’t realize how deserted the area was, or I probably would have thought twice! – or when I wandered into a truck stop to get a cocktail, then back to the airport to spend the night… Maybe that time I was newly pregnant and very ill, when I took an overnight bus home from NYC and went straight to the office. A few additional stories that involve alcohol, but we won’t go there.
